BEDFORD—A French Lick woman was arrested early Thursday morning after Bedford Police observed suspicious driving behavior, which led to multiple criminal charges.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Sgt. Faheem Bade, Krista Elizabeth Baker, 29, was stopped near State Road 37 and 35th Street at approximately 2:40 a.m.
Sgt. Bade reported the black Hyundai Elantra was traveling abnormally slow and exhibiting erratic driving patterns, including:
- Driving 10-15 mph below the speed limit
- Drifting between lanes
- Inconsistent acceleration
During the traffic stop, officers immediately detected the odor of marijuana. Baker reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening.
Police discovered multiple hand-rolled cigarettes and a clear plastic bag containing 35 grams of marijuana during a vehicle search.
After performing field sobriety tests, Baker was found to have performed poorly on the Walk and Turn and One Leg Stand tests. A blood draw warrant was obtained, and two vials of blood were collected at IU Health Bedford.
Baker was subsequently transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI controlled substance, OWI endangerment, and possession of marijuana.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
