MITCHELL—Spring Mill Inn has been closed since November 2022 as it underwent significant renovations. Work is coming to an end, and the inn is getting ready to reopen. The public is welcome to an open house to check out the inn on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The Spring Mill Inn opened in 1939.
The 73-room inn was structurally sound but needs significant work, which requires the extended closure of the entire facility, including the Millstone Dining Room, conference facilities, and overnight lodging.
Governor Eric J. Holcomb and the Indiana General Assembly provided funding for this project through an infusion of dollars to address deferred maintenance needs in Indiana State Parks and other DNR properties. The base budget for the project is $10 million.
The project’s primary goal was to modernize all mechanical systems while retaining the historic, natural look and feel of the public spaces and guest rooms. The work includes replacing water lines, fire alarms, sprinklers, and HVAC. It also includes installing new windows and doors, making accessibility upgrades, making additional guest room furnishing and bathroom upgrades, and replacing the existing swimming pool with a splash pad.
“Guests will appreciate the improvements from the moment they check-in at the new centrally located welcome desk to their renovated rooms,” said DNR Director Dan Bortner.
