November 6: A date of historical significance

BEDFORD – November 6th has been a significant date in American history, particularly for presidential elections. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th President of the United States, a pivotal moment that led to the American Civil War.  

Beyond presidential elections, November 6th has marked other historical events. In 1917, New York State granted women the right to vote, a significant step towards women’s suffrage. In 1995, the Cleveland Browns NFL franchise was uprooted to Baltimore, a move that devastated fans in Cleveland.  

More recently, November 6th has seen significant political events. In 2012, Tammy Baldwin became the first openly gay person elected to the U.S. Senate. In 2020, Joe Biden was elected as the 46th President of the United States.
