LAWRENCE—Vietnam Veterans of America Sammy L Davis Chapter 295 will celebrate early Veterans Day by serving other veterans.
The chapter will hold an open house on November 9th beginning at 11 a.m. and follow that with a 1 p.m. briefing on benefits available to Veterans, spouses, and widows. Lunch will be served during the event, and VVA will collect food, clothing, and monetary contributions to assist Helping Veterans and Families following their disastrous fire last week.
“We are very appreciative of the support we get from the Lawrence community,” said Dennis Smalling, president of VVA 295, “and we want to invite them into the Veterans Center to show them what we’re doing. We also want to show veterans of all eras and their family members the benefits they may be eligible for but of which they may not be completely aware. We have given this briefing several times, and it is always well-attended, and many veterans and their families get information they find helpful.
“We have invited members of other veterans service organizaitons and community groups to attend in the hopes that they will invite us to give this presentation around the state,” Smalling continued. “We are vert proud of this briefing,” said Mike Dolan, president of VVA Indiana State Chapter. “The information is thoroughly researched and presented in a way that is understandable to our veterans and their families.
“We often meet with attendees later to answer their questions, and we are often able to help them receive the benefits they have earned but are sometimes unaware of,” Dolan continued.
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 295 is located in the Lawrence Veterans Center, 9450 East 59th Street, Lawrence, Indiana 46226. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon. The Veterans, Widows and Spouses briefing will begin at 1 p.m. There is no charge.
