Judge John M. Plummer III educates Mitchell High School students on consent and legal consequences

MITCHELL – On Thursday, Judge John M. Plummer III of the Lawrence Superior Court I delivered an impactful presentation titled “NO Means No” to the entire student body of Mitchell High School.

The event emphasized the importance of consent and educated students on the serious legal implications tied to battery and sexual offenses.

Judge Plummer’s presentation highlighted the potential criminal charges associated with inappropriate behavior, underscoring the importance of understanding consent in interpersonal relationships. He outlined the legal definitions, consequences, and penalties for actions classified under battery and sexual crimes. By presenting real-world legal knowledge in an accessible format, he aimed to empower students with the information necessary to make respectful, law-abiding choices.

Following the presentation, Judge Plummer engaged directly with students, who were encouraged to ask questions and discuss the topics in greater depth. This interactive session allowed students to understand the laws in place better and clarified any concerns they might have regarding personal and peer conduct.

The Lawrence Superior Court thanked Mitchell High School’s administration for facilitating this important educational event. Judge Plummer thanked Principal Dr. Bond and Student Council Sponsor Becky Mason for their support and invitation to speak to the students.

This presentation is part of ongoing efforts by local judicial figures to raise awareness about consent and legal responsibility among youth, aiming to foster a safer and more respectful community.
