BEDFORD— Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline sentenced a Bedford man to prison on Thursday, November 7. The man failed to comply with the terms of his probation.
Austin O. Smith, 44, was sentenced to 900 days in the Indiana Department of Correction after failing to meet the requirements of his probation agreement.
Smith had previously pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, on June 27, 2024, as part of a negotiated plea deal with the State of Indiana. Under the terms of that agreement, he was sentenced to 910 days in prison, with 906 days suspended. In exchange for his guilty plea, Smith was ordered to serve 546 days on supervised probation.
However, after failing to meet the conditions of his probation—conditions that included regular drug testing and other requirements—Smith’s probation was revoked. Judge Cline sentenced him to serve the remaining 900 days in the Indiana Department of Correction.
Smith’s failure to comply with the probation terms led to the decision to incarcerate him rather than allowing him to continue under supervised release.
