GRANT CO. – Monday, just after 9:00 p.m., an Indiana State Police vehicle was struck while assisting with an abandoned car in Marion.
A preliminary investigation by Trooper Kyle Lafferty revealed that Trooper Brock Green was assisting with an abandoned vehicle near Pennsylvania Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard in Marion. Trooper Green was sitting in his patrol car, and the emergency lights were activated to warn other vehicles to slow down and move over. While doing so, the abandoned vehicle, along with Trooper Green’s police vehicle, was struck by a 2000 Mercury Sable driven by Charles E. Marks, 75, of Gas City.
While speaking with Marks, Trooper Green was able to gather information leading him to believe that Marks was under the influence of suspected alcohol. Further investigation revealed that he was also in possession of marijuana.
Marks was transported to an area hospital for a certified test before being transported to the Grant County Jail.
Marks sustained a minor injury during this incident. Trooper Green did not sustain any injury.
Marks was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana, a Class C misdemeanor.
Trooper Green was assisted on the scene by troopers from the Peru Post, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, and Marion Police Department.
