Orleans residents reminded of ongoing leaf pickup service

ORLEANS—The Town of Orleans reminds residents that the annual leaf machine pickup is underway. Crews are actively collecting leaf piles throughout the town. Residents are encouraged to rake their leaves to the tree plat, which is located between the sidewalk and curb, to ensure proper collection.

Residents are asked not to rake leaves into the street to assist the crews in working efficiently, as this can obstruct traffic and hinder the leaf vacuum process. Additionally, large sticks and other debris should be removed from leaf piles. These materials can clog the vacuum pipes, slowing the collection process and causing delays for other residents.

Crews will continue to move from pile to pile, collecting leaves until all are gathered. Once the initial round of pickups is completed, crews will make another circuit to ensure all piles have been collected.

It is important to note that burning leaves is prohibited on any town street or roadway. This regulation protects public safety and air quality during the fall season.

Bagged leaves are collected in addition to the leaf machine pickup. However, residents are reminded to keep trash and bagged leaves separate for proper pickup, as they must be handled separately.

If residents have any questions regarding the leaf collection process or need assistance, they should contact the Orleans Town Offices at 812-865-2539.

As the season progresses, town officials urge residents to be mindful of the pickup guidelines to help make this year’s leaf collection smooth and efficient for everyone.
