Ring in the new year with a healthy start at the 12th Annual First Day Trail Run and Walk

BLOOMINGTON— Ring in the new year with a healthy start at the 12th Annual First Day Trail Run and Walk on January 1 at the beautiful Fairfax State Recreation Area (SRA) on Monroe Lake. This family-friendly, untimed, non-competitive event offers participants the chance to kick off 2025 with a fun outdoor adventure — choosing from three scenic courses ranging from 1.3 to 3.7 miles.

Event Details:

  • Registration Fees:
    • Advance Registration (through December 30): $15 at bit.ly/monroefirstday
    • Same-Day Registration: $20 (cash or check only)
  • Check-In / Same-Day Registration: 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Fairfax SRA: Bay View Shelter
  • Run/Walk Start Time: 3:30 p.m.

This fun run/walk is designed for all levels of fitness, offering participants the choice of three different courses:

After completing the course, participants can celebrate by ringing in the new year at the finish line bell. The first 300 registrants will receive a collectible, 100% embroidered event patch to commemorate the occasion!

Perks for All Registrants:

  • Food Station: Warm up after your run/walk with soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot cocoa, and various snacks.
  • Prize Drawing: Each registration includes a ticket for a chance to win one of many great prizes.
  • Free Photos: Hundreds of free event photos will be downloaded after the event.
  • Fire Pit: Stay warm before and after the event with a large fire to enjoy with fellow participants.

Important Notes:

  • The event is an untimed, non-competitive, fun run/walk, perfect for leisurely walkers and seasoned runners alike.
  • Course Closure: All courses will close by 5:00 p.m., and the food station will shut down shortly after.
  • Dogs: While dogs are allowed, they must be kept on a leash of 6 feet or less at all times. Participants with dogs should start at the back of the group.
