PAOLI – The Orange County Historical Society (OCHS) will once again welcome the community to a festive, old-fashioned holiday celebration at the historic Lindley House in Paoli on Sunday, December 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. This cherished event offers a glimpse into a simpler Christmas past, as the 174-year-old farmhouse is decorated downstairs to reflect the style and charm of an 1860s holiday.
In addition to the historic ambiance, the afternoon will feature live music from Wildflowers & Weeds, who will perform period-appropriate songs in the house’s front parlor. To enhance the festive atmosphere, hot cider and cookies will be served in the kitchen area, inviting guests to relax and enjoy the seasonal treats.
OCHS President Robert Henderson invites guests to experience the historic house, which will be open for informal tours. Volunteers will be stationed throughout the home to share its rich history and provide insights into the significance of the house and its former residents. The Lindley House was once the home of Thomas Elwood Lindley, one of the area’s early settlers, and remains a treasured landmark in Orange County.
Admission to the event is free, though donations will be accepted to help preserve and maintain the Lindley House for future generations. Guests are encouraged to enter the house through the front door to enjoy a self-guided tour. Visitors may arrive between 2 and 4 p.m. and explore the rooms at their own pace. Several rooms in the house have recently been refurbished with period-style wall coverings and window dressings, further enhancing the historical experience.
The Lindley House, located just off Highway 150 West on Willow Creek Road in Paoli, is a testament to the area’s early history and is open to the public for special events like this one.
