Indiana State Police launch investigation Into alleged battery involving four children, parents detained

 ORANGE CO. – On Friday, November 1, Indiana State Police Jasper District initiated a criminal investigation after receiving information from the Orange County Department of Child Services concerning allegations of battery with bodily injury on a minor involving four children.

The investigation revealed that Herbert Halbert and Theresa Halbert had allegedly battered their four minor children. The allegations took place in Orange County.

After reviewing the investigation, the Orange County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Herbert Halbert and Theresa Halbert on November 25, 2024. A search warrant was also issued for items inside the residence.

On the same day, officers arrested the Halberts on active warrants and searched their residence. Herbert Halbert and Theresa Halbert were detained without incident and transported to the Orange County Jail.

Herbert Halbert is facing charges of domestic battery causing bodily injury to a person under 14 years old, a Level 5 felony, and three counts of dissemination of matter harmful to a minor, Level 6 felonies.

Theresa Halbert is facing a Level 6 felony charge of domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16 years old.

This investigation is still ongoing.
