MITCHELL– A Mitchell man has been arrested after allegedly violating a No Contact Order by repeatedly reaching out to his ex-partner, leading to criminal charges in Lawrence County.
Christopher Tolbert, 33, is facing charges of invasion of privacy following an investigation by the Lawrence County Police Department. The case stems from a report filed by a female who claims that Tolbert violated the No Contact Order issued against him after a domestic altercation earlier this year.
On November 11, 2024, the woman visited the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to report that Tolbert had been contacting her despite a No Contact Order being in place since April 16, 2024. Deputy Travis Atchison was assigned to the case and met with the woman to gather more details.
She told authorities she had received multiple text messages, phone calls, and voicemails from Tolbert after filing the No Contact Order. She explained that she was unaware of the No Contact Order until June 5, 2024, when the Department of Child Services informed her. She provided screenshots of the messages sent by Tolbert, which were included as evidence in the report. Additionally, she showed deputies several voicemails, explaining that she had received over 400 voicemail messages from Tolbert, many of which she had not yet listened to.
Tolbert’s messages and voicemails, time-stamped after the issuance of the No Contact Order, directly violated the court order and prompted authorities to take action. Deputy Atchison requested a warrant for Tolbert’s arrest. Tolbert was arrested on that warrant on Monday, December 2.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
