BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year on Tuesday, following a historic season for the Hoosiers.
Cignetti becomes the third Indiana head coach to earn this prestigious honor, joining Tom Allen (2020) and Bill Mallory (1986). This recognition comes after Cignetti led the Hoosiers to an impressive eight-win improvement, setting a new program record with 11 wins in 2024. The previous record for most wins in a season was nine, accomplished in 1967 and 1945.
This marks Cignetti’s fourth conference Coach of the Year award. He was previously recognized as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year with Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2012, the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year with Elon in 2017, and the Sun Belt Coach of the Year with James Madison in 2023.
The Hoosiers capped off their regular season with a dominant 66-0 victory over Purdue in the Old Oaken Bucket game, solidifying their remarkable campaign. Now, Indiana will look ahead to the postseason and eagerly await the final rankings for the College Football Playoff, which will be released on Sunday, December 8, at noon.
Cignetti’s leadership has helped turn Indiana football into a contender, and all eyes will be on the Hoosiers as they await their fate in the College Football Playoff.
