Barry Kent Whalin, 69, of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital.
Born August 14, 1955, in Bedford, he was the son of John Robert and Mary Lois (Chastain) Whalin. He married Yvonne Kay Wyman on November 4, 2002 and she survives.
Barry graduated from Mitchell High School in 1974. He worked as a material handler for the Essex Group and Cook Medical. Barry was a member of the Newton Stewart Masonic Lodge No. 432 F.&A.M. in Paoli and the Exchange Club. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and watching IU basketball and Gunsmoke reruns. He also enjoyed old cars and motorcycles and working on small engines.
Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Kay Whalin of Mitchell; daughter, Leah Marie (Brad) DeWeese of Mitchell; stepsons, Larry Croan of Mitchell and Adam (Jose) Croan of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Kent (Savannah) Moore of Mitchell and Victoria Grace (Mikie) Keefe of Bedford; step-granddaughters, Chloe DeWeese of Bedford, Veronika Croan of Austin, Texas, and Bree Croan of Austin, Texas; and great-granddaughter, Marlee Jaye Moore, with one great-granddaughter on the way.
His parents and brother, Michael Wayne Whalin, preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, with Pastor Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
