Victim dies in vehicle fire following crash in Jackson County

JACKSON CO. — A victim has died in a vehicle fire following a crash Friday evening in Jackson County.

According to the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department, passersby attempted to rescue the trapped driver from the burning vehicle but were unable to do so. The Jackson County Coroner’s Office pronounced the victim dead at the scene. At this time, no information is available regarding the victim’s identity.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the two-vehicle crash just before 6 p.m. Friday in the 2000 block of East State Road 258. Two other individuals at the scene were transported to the hospital with injuries, though their conditions and the extent of their injuries are unknown.

The crash caused State Road 258 to be closed between County Roads 200E and 100E for several hours as authorities investigated the incident.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police responded to the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.
