BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence will face a new opponent when the Stars make their debut in the prestigious Sneakers for Santa Showcase on Saturday.
The Stars (1-1) will battle host Brownsburg in the third game of the six-game event. The Bulldogs opened their season on Friday night with a 39-37 win over Franklin Central, and they will feature intimidating size in the front court with 6-7 senior star Jesiah Sloss and 6-7 junior Chris Brandon.
“For the athletes they have, they are disciplined, they run a lot of really good action and challenge you with a lot of ball screens, a lot of ball reversals,” BNL coach Kurt Godlevske said. “Defensively, they can get after you, they can pressure and play an extended zone because of their length and athleticism. So that game will present a whole new challenge. It will be really good for us.”
Sloss scored 18 points in the win over the Flashes, while Brandon Addison added 12 points.
BNL will counter with its perimeter attack of Patric Matson (20.5 points) and Quincy Pickett (9.5), plus the interior support from Logan Miracle (10.5).
“It’s a great preparation game for us, a chance to get some exposure against a coach (Brownsburg veteran Steve Lynch) who has been successful,” Godlevske said. “It will get us ready for conference play.”
The other matchups in the showcase will include Class 3A No.9 Fort Wayne Blackhawk meeting Avon in the opener, 3A No.13 NorthWood will clash with Zionsville, Gary West will face 4A No.5 Lawrence North, East Chicago Central will test 3A No.1 Indianapolis Attucks, and 4A No.3 Greenfield-Central will clash with 4A No.9 Ben Davis.

Last meeting: This is the first meeting in the series.
Game notes: BNL and Brownsburg will play in the third game (of six during the event) of the annual Sneakers for Santa Showcase. Brownsburg’s first two games of the season were postponed because of football success.
