SCOTT CO. — On Sunday, December 1, Scott County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting report on State Road 256 near Whitsitt Road. The initial report indicated that an unknown suspect had shot another person and fled the scene in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Upon receiving the call, Scott County Sheriff’s Detectives quickly responded to the scene. Deputies were able to locate the SUV at an address on Coffee Pot Road in rural Scott County. With the help of the Indiana State Police and the Austin City Police Department, further investigation led to the identification of a suspect in the shooting.
The suspect, 36-year-old Anthony J. Reed of Madison, was taken into custody by detectives and transported to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office in Scottsburg for questioning. During the interview, Reed admitted to being the shooter, explaining that the incident stemmed from a dispute over drugs and a misunderstanding in which Reed accused the victim of being a police officer.
The victim, who was shot during the altercation, was transported to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment and remains there.
Reed was arrested and incarcerated at the Scott County Jail on multiple weapon-related charges. Once the investigation report is reviewed, the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office will seek additional charges.
