ORLEANS— Get ready for a holiday celebration full of festive fun as the “Fun Time Express” train ride returns to the historic Congress Square for the Annual Orleans Christmas on the Square event this Saturday, December 14th, from 5 to 7 p.m. This beloved family event is made possible by the Orleans Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Orleans, and Visit French Lick/West Baden.
The festivities kick off with the “Fun Time Express” train ride, offering a magical experience for families to enjoy together.
But that’s not all — this year, the Orleans Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting a “Letter Box” for Santa Claus, conveniently located outside the Chamber Office/Welcome Center on the north side of the historic Orleans Town Square.
Local children can now get their special pre-printed “Postcards for Santa” free at various businesses around town. These postcards require no postage and must be dropped off in the Santa Box at the Chamber office (not in the regular post office boxes). All letters will be sent directly to Santa at the North Pole, and some lucky postcards may even be featured in upcoming editions of The Orleans Progress Examiner.
Don’t wait too long! Christmas is fast approaching, and all letters must be collected for Santa’s Christmas Eve ride. Orleans Chamber officials have confirmed that Santa and Mrs. Claus will make their grand entrance at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 14th, riding in on the historic 1926 Orleans antique fire truck. After arriving in downtown Orleans, children and families will have the chance to visit with the Jolly Old Elf himself on the 1926 bandstand in front of the town’s official Christmas Tree.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! For those looking to get active, the Annual Orleans Santa Hat Run/Walk will take place at 5:15 p.m., also in conjunction with Christmas on the Square. Participants will meet near the bandstand (near the traffic light) at 5:15 p.m., where Santa will lead the way to kick off the fun race parade. Don’t forget to wear your best Santa hat and join the “Sea of Santa Red” as you run or walk through Orleans. This event is free and open to all ages, with children needing to be accompanied by a parent.
Other exciting activities planned for the evening include visits with Santa at the bandstand, horse-drawn carriage rides, a live nativity, food, entertainment, and more! Local eateries and some businesses around the town square will be open. The event marks the 14th year of the cherished Orleans Christmas on the Square tradition.
So, bring your family, Christmas cheer, and holiday spirit to downtown Orleans for a night of unforgettable memories.
