Robert Q. Berry III appointed Dean of Indiana University Bloomington School of Education

BLOOMINGTON— Robert Q. Berry III has been named the next dean of the Indiana University Bloomington School of Education, effective April 1. The university announced Thursday, citing Berry’s extensive experience in higher education leadership and scholarship.

Berry comes to IU from the University of Arizona and serves as the dean and chair of the College of Education. He succeeds Anastasia “Stacy” Morrone, who has held the position since July 2021. As dean at IU, Berry will oversee the school’s academic and research programs, manage faculty and staff, and coordinate the effective use of resources.

Berry’s appointment comes after a distinguished career in education as an academic leader and a scholar. He is a member of the National Academy of Education, one of the premier organizations in the field. Throughout his career, Berry has authored and co-edited eight books, written more than 100 refereed publications and book chapters, and delivered over 300 academic presentations worldwide. His work has significantly influenced the field of education, particularly in areas related to diversity, equity, and instructional leadership.

A first-generation college graduate, Berry earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, following undergraduate degrees from Christopher Newport University and Old Dominion University.

During his tenure at the University of Arizona, Berry led initiatives to strengthen faculty development, promote diversity, and enhance community engagement. His leadership experience and academic accomplishments position him to continue building on the success of IU’s School of Education.

At IU, Berry will work to elevate further the School of Education’s reputation as a leader in preparing educators, advancing educational research, and shaping policy to address challenges in education at the local, national, and global levels.
