OOLITIC— A domestic dispute in Oolitic led to the arrest of 46-year-old Jason D. Greer on Saturday, December 7, 2024, after he allegedly threw a steel-toed boot at his wife during an argument, causing her pain and injury.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of North 9th Street in Oolitic after a 911 call was placed by a woman who reported that her daughter was involved in a verbal altercation with her husband, Jason Greer.
Officers Thomas Porter and Sgt. Robin Compton arrived at the scene, where they could hear a male voice yelling inside the apartment.
Upon entering the apartment, they found Jason Greer sitting on the stairway steps. Officers escorted Greer outside. Meanwhile, the injured woman and her mother provided details of the incident.
The injured woman explained that she had just returned from a shopping trip to Walmart to purchase a new microwave. Upon her arrival, Greer confronts her about the purchase, which leads to a verbal argument. She told police Greer had been drinking alcohol, and she confronted him about it, which escalated the situation. Greer then allegedly threw a yellow steel-toe construction boot at her, striking her on the leg and causing noticeable pain, redness, and swelling just above her knee.
After hearing the woman’s account, Officer Porter went downstairs to speak with Greer. Greer was read his Miranda rights but declined to answer any questions. Officers also obtained a statement from the female’s mother, who confirmed witnessing Greer throw the boot at her daughter. She stated that she believed the boot would have hit her daughter in the head had Greer not stumbled as he threw it.
Greer was arrested and taken to IU Health Bedford for medical clearance due to a high blood alcohol content. After being cleared, he was transported to the Lawrence County Security Center and incarcerated on charges of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
