INDIANAPOLIS—Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced he has selected Lake County Superior Court Judge Stephen Scheele as the next Indiana Court of Appeals member. Judge Scheele will replace retiring Judge Terry Crone.
“I’m proud to appoint Judge Scheele, a person with immense integrity and a lifetime of experience, to the Court of Appeals,” Gov. Holcomb said. “Judge Scheele’s commitment to the law and equal justice will continue to serve his fellow Hoosiers with distinction as he joins the second highest bench in Indiana.”
Judge Scheele has been a Lake County Superior Court judge since 2019. He was formerly a Magistrate for the Lake County Circuit Court. Scheele studied undergrad at the University of Denver and received his Juris Doctorate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1997.
Judge Scheele is a role model lawyer with a reputation as an intelligent and thoughtful leader. He has extensive experience in the courtroom and has used that experience to run an efficient and effective court.
“My appointment to the Indiana Court of Appeals by Governor Holcomb is a great honor. My goal is to emulate the high respect earned by Judge Terry Crone,” said Judge Scheele. “I pledge to always do my best in my service to our Great Hoosier state, its judicial branch, and citizens.”
A date for Judge Scheele’s swearing in and robing ceremony will be determined by the Indiana Court of Appeals.
