LAWRENCE CO.— Lawrence County Emergency Management provides free weather radios to those most in need, thanks to a generous grant from Duke Energy. The initiative aims to help vulnerable Hoosiers, particularly those who may not have access to weather information through other services like the internet or cable television.
Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer emphasized the importance of reaching out to those living in mobile or manufactured homes and individuals who cannot receive timely weather updates. “We want to ensure that those most vulnerable are not left in the dark when severe weather strikes,” Luchauer said.
Residents who meet the criteria and need a weather radio are encouraged to contact the Lawrence County Emergency Management office at 812-277-9680. The grant also includes funding for emergency generators, which will be provided to homebound residents who need to remain in their homes during power outages.
“These generators are essential for those dependent on power for medical equipment or other critical needs,” Luchauer added. The effort is part of the ongoing commitment to support the community’s most at-risk populations in times of emergency.”
For more information on receiving a weather radio, residents are urged to contact Emergency Management immediately.
