Lawrence County waiting on word of federal aid for historic bridge replacement

BEDFORD – Lawrence County officials are awaiting federal funding approval to replace Bridge 107, a historic truss bridge located near Springville on Armstrong Station Road.

The Lawrence County Commissioners have signed a financial commitment letter as part of the federal aid application process. In November, the commissioners approved hiring the Lochmueller Group to assist with securing the federal funding needed to address safety and structural concerns at the bridge site.

In related infrastructure news, Sowder also released the preliminary project schedule for Bridge 66, a 90-foot historic structure on Tunnelton Denniston Road with a 16-ton weight limit.

The Lawrence County Highway Department has moved forward with several maintenance contracts, accepting single bids for salt, asphalt, and fuel, along with multiple bids for crushed stone and hot and cold mix materials. Additionally, the department approved a bid from Ruxer Ford Lincoln Inc. of Jasper to purchase new department trucks.
