WASHINGTON— On Tuesday, Senator-elect. Jim Banks (R-IN) delivered his final speech as the Congressman for Indiana’s third district on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
Remarks:
I rise today one last time in this chamber after eight years serving northeast Indiana in the House.
I want to thank my supporters, friends and family who’ve allowed me the great honor of serving in Congress.
I will always be grateful to them.
Most of all, my wife Amanda and our three daughters, Lillian, Elizabeth, and Joann. I’m only able to do this job because of the sacrifices they make.
I want to thank my staff for their hard work on behalf of my constituents.
I’m proud of where I come from, and it’s been an honor to represent the best place in the world and the best people in the world in the U.S. House of Representatives.
This is the greatest country in the world, and we have a duty to keep it that way.
And I’m thankful I’ll be able to keep fighting for that in the Senate.
Thank you and I yield back.
Background:
Senator-elect Banks was elected to the United States House of Representatives in November of 2016.
He served four terms in the House where he sat on the House Committee on Armed Services, House Committee on Education and the Workforce, House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
In the 117th Congress, Banks served as Chairman of the Republican Study Committee—the largest caucus of conservative legislators in the House.
Senator-elect Banks was elected to the United States Senate on November 5th, 2024. He will be replacing the seat left vacant by Senator Mike Braun who was elected Governor of Indiana earlier this year.
