Streaking Stars cruise to sweep of Jennings

BNL’s Mia Manke was a member of a winning relay during Tuesday’s win over Jennings County.

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence continued to make waves, dominating Jennings County with a sweep of meets during high school swimming action on Tuesday night.

The Stars won their third straight girls meet, cruising to a 114-59 victory over the Panthers. In the boys meet, BNL posted a 121-34 triumph.

BNL won nine events, including a sweep of the relays, in the girls meet. Francesca Orozco was a double winner, touching first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.80) and 100 free (1:04.26). Other individual winners included Jabrie Sullivan (3:02.55 in the 200 individual medley), Cookie King (1:05.97 in the 100 butterfly), Ava Lipp (1:04.99 in the 100 backstroke) and Mia Manke (1:28.78 in the 100 breaststroke).

Ava Lipp, Emma Heinzman, King and Sabrina Lipp combined to win the 200 medley relay (2:04.87). Heinzman, King and both Lipps claimed the 200 free relay (1:54.45), and Manke, Heinzman, King and Ava Lipp won the 400 free relay (4:20.38).

In the boys meet, BNL claimed nine events, sweeping the relays. Oliver Brown and Garrett Gabhart were double winners. Brown took the 200 free (2:01.33) and 100 breaststroke (1:24.69), while Gabhart was victorious in the 100 butterfly (54.53) and 100 backstroke (59.33).

Other winners included Porter Brown (25.50 in the 50 free) and Cameron Irwin (1:03.72 in the 100 free).

In the relays, Dustin Haltom. Logan Langley, Carson Puckett and Porter Brown took the 200 medley relay (1:56.23). Haltom, Gabhart and both Browns won the 200 free relay (1:39.21), while Langley, Puckett, Oliver Brown and Gabhart touched first in the 400 free relay (4:18.18).

“Jennings County did not have the numbers they usually do, but they had some really good swimmers,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “We swam a lot of off events so we can continue to get times. We had a lot of high points throughout the meet.

“Cameron Irwin and Francesca Orozco continue to impress with drops. Talon Hooten is really improving right now. Jabrie Sullivan is another one that continues to get faster.”

BNL will host Columbus North on Saturday.
