Ayla Steele named Orange County 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar

ORANGE CO.— The Orange County Community Foundation is proud to announce that Ayla Steele, a standout student from Orleans High School, has been selected as the 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. Ayla’s impressive academic achievements, leadership abilities, and dedication to community service have earned her this prestigious honor, positioning her as a shining example of the values this scholarship represents.

Ayla, the daughter of Rhett and Sara Steele, plans to attend Purdue University, where she will pursue a co-major in cell, molecular, and developmental biology. With aspirations of becoming a molecular biologist and university professor, Ayla is already well on her way to significantly impacting the scientific community.

In addition to her academic excellence, Ayla is deeply involved in her school and community. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and serves as co-captain on several of her school’s sports teams. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, with Ayla contributing as a digital fabrication lab intern and participating in 4-H programs. She also serves the community through her work with the Community Foundation Youth Council, demonstrating her commitment to giving back.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is a highly competitive award given to just one student from Orange County each year. The scholarship covers full tuition, fees, and up to $900 annually for books and equipment. Recipients also gain access to the Lilly Scholars Network, a valuable resource for networking and further leadership development.
