Teen punches fellow student and now faces criminal charges

BEDFORD – On Wednesday, a male teen was suspended and is now facing criminal charges after punching another male at Bedford North Lawrence High School.

The teen is facing a charge of battery causing injury.

At 11:30 a.m. near Entrance 6, a North Lawrence High School Resource Officer received a report of a student unconscious on the floor.

The detained male teen told police the injured male had harassed him in the past and, during lunch, had been saying inappropriate things to and about him. He admitted he walked in front of the teen who was harassing him and punched him, causing the male to fall to the floor.

The officer found the injured teen beginning to sit up. The officer took the injured male into a classroom and called the school nurse to check on him.  The male suffered a bloody lip and a swollen nose. The teen complained of having a headache and told the officer he couldn’t remember what had happened.

The injured teen was picked up by his father and taken to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation.

The other teen was suspended, released to his father, and issued a summons to appear in juvenile court on January 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
