BEDFORD – On Wednesday, a male teen was suspended and is now facing criminal charges after punching another male student at Bedford North Lawrence High School.
The teen faces a charge of battery causing injury.
At 11:30 a.m. near Entrance 6, a North Lawrence High School Resource Officer received reports of a student unconscious on the floor.
The officer found the injured teen beginning to sit up. The officer took the injured male student into a classroom and called the school nurse to check on him. The male student who was punched suffered a bloody lip and a swollen nose, and he complained of having a headache. He told the officer he couldn’t remember what had happened.
The detained male teen admitted to Assistant Principal Steve McNabb and Attendance Secretary Greg Burton that the injured male had been saying inappropriate things to him leading up to this day. He admitted he walked in front of the teen, who was making inappropriate statements to him and punched him, causing the male to fall to the floor.
The injured teen was picked up by his father and taken to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation.
The student who made the punch was suspended from school, released to his father, and issued a summons to appear in juvenile court on January 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
