Mitchell woman will spend time in prison for violating terms of her probation

BEDFORD, Ind. — A Mitchell woman has been sentenced to prison after failing to comply with the terms of her probation, according to a decision made by Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline.

Dyana L. Sims

On December 19, 2024, Judge Cline revoked the probation of Dyana L. Sims, 29, and ordered her to serve 490 days in the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC). This sentence comes after Sims repeatedly failed to meet the requirements outlined in her probation agreement.

Sims had pleaded guilty to criminal recklessness committed while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony, in January 2024 as part of a negotiated plea with the State of Indiana. She was initially sentenced to 545 days, with 46 days of credit for time already served and the remaining 499 days of the sentence suspended. Sims was placed on probation for 515 days as part of the agreement.

However, Sims’ probation was revoked after she failed to comply with the conditions of her release. As a result, Judge Cline ordered her to serve the remainder of her sentence in the IDOC and terminated her probation as unsuccessful.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Arthur Pearcy represented the State of Indiana during the proceedings.

Judge Cline’s decision underscores his commitment to holding probation violators accountable, ensuring that individuals who do not follow the terms of their court-ordered sentences face the appropriate consequences. Sims’ case highlights the serious implications of violating probation and the importance of adhering to legal obligations.
