BLOOMINGTON — The Monroe County Democratic Party will hold a caucus on Sunday, January 5, to fill the vacant County Council At-Large seat previously held by the late Councilwoman Cheryl Munson. Munson, a beloved community figure, passed away earlier this year, and the selected candidate will serve the remainder of her four-year term, which runs through the November 2028 election.
The caucus will occur at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, in the Nat U. Hill room at the Monroe County Courthouse. Only precinct committee members who have held positions since November 11, 2024, can vote in the caucus.
Interested candidates must contact Ashley Pirani, the party’s secretary, at secretary@monroedems.org to submit their information for consideration. Those wishing to run must complete and file a CEB–five form listing Efrat Rosser as the caucus chairperson. The form must be notarized, and a PDF should be sent to secretary@monroedems.org to begin the candidacy process.
For general inquiries about the caucus or the process, potential candidates and members of the public can reach out to David Henry, the Monroe County Democratic Party Chair, at chair@monroedems.org.
The caucus presents a significant opportunity to honor the legacy of Councilwoman Munson while choosing a candidate to serve her constituents for the remainder of the term.
