BLOOMINGTON – A fire broke out early Christmas morning at a residence on West Rogers Road, leaving one person injured. The Monroe Fire Protection District (MFD) received the emergency call at approximately 3:45 a.m. and immediately dispatched fire crews.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames coming from a bedroom window. The resident was found in the front yard, reporting an injury. MFD’s ambulance crew quickly transported the patient, who was conscious and able to speak with first responders but in serious condition. A paramedic intercept from IU Health Lifeline Ambulance Service was requested to assist in the patient’s transport to the hospital.
Fire crews entered the home through the front door, where they encountered intense heat and flames pushing down the hallway. Despite the hazardous conditions, they advanced toward the bedroom, where the fire was centered. A home search was conducted to ensure no other individuals were inside. Within about 15 minutes, the fire was declared under control.
Firefighters then shifted to salvage and overhaul operations, working to cool hot spots and search for any hidden embers that might reignite. Duke Energy also assisted at the scene, though there were no reported issues with utilities.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and MFD has not released further updates regarding the homeowner’s condition. The department expressed its thoughts for the individual’s recovery and will continue to monitor the situation.
IU Health Lifeline and Duke Energy assisted the Monroe Fire Protection District during the emergency response.
