Monroe Fire Protection District firefighters responds to garage fire on State Road 46

BLOOMINGTON — The Monroe Fire Protection District responded to a garage fire Thursday afternoon in the 5800 block of East State Road 46. The fire was reported around 2:40 p.m., prompting immediate action from local fire crews.

As units were en route, Battalion 29 requested mutual aid from the Bloomington City Fire Department. Truck 2 from Bloomington arrived on the scene to find a detached garage fully involved in flames and began efforts to suppress the fire.

Engines 22, 24, 25, and 29 soon arrived, establishing a water supply to support firefighting operations and providing additional manpower.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to the nearby house. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies temporarily closed the road to ensure safety while crews worked at the scene.

Investigation into the cause of the fire determined it was accidental. No injuries were reported. Duke Energy was contacted to secure the power to the garage as part of the safety measures.
