Two arrested after police chase in Morgan County uncovers 58 grams of meth, marijuana, and stolen firearm

MORGAN CO.— Two individuals were arrested early Friday morning following a police pursuit in Morgan County that led to the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, and a stolen firearm in their vehicle.

Nolan Collins, 28, of Martinsville, was the driver of the vehicle and faces multiple charges, including methamphetamine possession, unlawful handgun possession, resisting law enforcement, driving while suspended, and several traffic violations. His passenger, 24-year-old Kaylynn Thompson of Bloomington, was arrested on charges related to methamphetamine, marijuana possession, and drug paraphernalia.

The incident began around 3:45 a.m. Friday, a sheriff’s deputy on patrol in Martinsville observed a traffic violation near East Washington Street and Home Avenue. The deputy attempted to stop the driver of a Toyota Corolla, but the driver, later identified as Collins, turned off the car’s lights and sped southbound on Grant Street.

As the deputy followed, Collins reportedly accelerated westbound on Walnut Street and failed to pull over after briefly turning the car’s lights back on. The driver then attempted to evade the deputy by weaving through streets and across a yard. The pursuit continued as the Corolla entered the northbound lanes of I-69 at the Morton Avenue roundabouts. During the chase, items were seen being thrown from the vehicle, and as Collins attempted to avoid stop sticks, the car crossed the median into southbound lanes.

The Corolla eventually sustained damage, leaking fluid, and became undrivable. The deputies stopped the car, and Collins and Thompson were taken into custody.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered a stolen .380 handgun, approximately 58 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, scales, needles, and other drug paraphernalia.
