Community mourns the loss of ‘Assist One’

Jack Voigtschild

The community mourned the loss of Jack Louis Voigtschild, 79, who passed away on December 7th at his home. Known affectionately as “Assist One” by emergency services, Voigtschild’s legacy of service spanned decades. A Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, he served as chaplain for multiple organizations, including the Lawrence County Police Department and IU Health Bedford Hospital. His tireless volunteerism touched countless lives through his work with organizations ranging from the Noon Lions Club to the Crisis Intervention Team. Voigtschild passed away peacefully beside his wife Sherry, his partner of 55 years who supported his lifetime of service to others.

The month highlighted Bedford’s strong community bonds through the celebration of youth achievement, enhanced educational communication, and remembrance of those who dedicated their lives to serving others.
