Volunteer with the Indiana DNR on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and beyond

INDIANA – As part of the National Day of Service, Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 20 provides a unique opportunity to give back to your community. Rather than taking the day off, why not dedicate your time to making a positive impact? The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is inviting individuals and groups to join its volunteer team to contribute to conservation efforts and outdoor recreation activities.

Partner with DNR to improve recreational opportunities at a Division of Fish & Wildlife property.

The Division of Fish & Wildlife seeks volunteers to help with ongoing projects, short-term roles, and one-time events. Whether you’re an avid outdoors enthusiast or simply passionate about wildlife conservation, volunteering with the DNR is a great way to make a difference in your community while enjoying nature.

Volunteers from Lippert Component’s Marine Manufacturing Division participated in DFW’s Adopt-A-Ramp volunteer opportunity at the Frank Zappia public access site on the St. Joseph River.

To get started, create a volunteer profile on the DNR’s website and register for opportunities that align with your interests and schedule. Volunteering can include activities such as habitat restoration, wildlife monitoring, or assisting with community events.

Volunteers assist with habitat improvement projects such as aquatic habitat structures.

By giving your time, you’ll not only support the state’s efforts to preserve wildlife and outdoor spaces, but you’ll also inspire others to get involved in protecting the environment. This year, consider spending Martin Luther King Jr. Day volunteering with the DNR—and continuing your service throughout 2025.
