Bedford Recreation Foundation supports Lawrence County Aquatics with generous donation

LAWRENCE COUNTY- The 2025 Claud Akins Memorial Golf Classic celebrated another successful year of community support and philanthropy, bringing together golfers and supporters to make a positive impact. As part of its ongoing commitment to local initiatives, the Bedford Recreation Foundation (BRF)  made a generous donation to Lawrence County Aquatics (LCA).

On December 10, 2024, a donation was presented to LCA from a portion of the “team” picture proceeds raised during the 2024 Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic. The Bedford Recreation Foundation matched the donation dollar-for-dollar and contributed an additional amount, bringing the total donation to an impressive $1,250.

Joe Elliott, Golf Chairman and BRF member; Kristen Held, President of LCA; Tom Elliott, President of BRF; and Paul Gabhart, LCA coach, were pictured at the presentation. BRF Board Members Misty Adams, Holly Davis, Jimmy Jones, and Jesse McKee were not pictured; however, their contributions were instrumental in this generous effort.

“The Claud Akins Memorial Golf Classic continues to honor its namesake’s legacy by giving back to our community,” said Joe Elliott. “This donation represents the collaboration of the golfers, supporters, and the BRF, all working together to support organizations like LCA that benefit our youth and community.”

The funds will help Lawrence County Aquatics enhance its programs and facilities, ensuring young swimmers have the necessary resources to thrive.

The Claud Akins Memorial Golf Classic remains a cherished tradition, blending camaraderie on the green with meaningful contributions that benefit the community. Organizers are already looking forward to making the 2025 tournament another opportunity to give back.

Efforts like these showcase the enduring spirit of generosity and community pride BRF fosters yearly.
