BNL wrestlers finish inaugural season in sectional

CAMPBELLSBURG – Bedford North Lawrence’s inaugural girls high school wrestling season came to a close during the IHSAA sectional at West Washington on Friday.

The Stars sent four athletes into action in their respective weight classes, and all four fell after two matches. The top four in each division advanced to the regional at Mooresville on Jan. 10.

At 110 pounds, BNL’s Savannah Wagner fell to Indian Creek’s Elizabeth Dowty in 13 seconds in the first round, then suffered a pin loss to Bloomington South’s Joslyn Hererra in 1:48 in the consolation bracket.

BNL’s Macey Pottorff dropped a tough 11-10 decision to Seymour’s Megan Stout in the first round at 130, then fell to Bloomington North’s Alexzandria Burns in 4:15 in the consolation.

At 145, BNL’s Alivia Crane fell to Whiteland’s Addison Emberton in 1:24, then battled Seymour’s Greydis Chub to a 5-2 decision in the consolation round.

BNL’s Arianna Andis lost to Whiteland’s Callie Nguyen in 1:42 at 190, then got pinned by Bloomington South’s Jaclyn Hillenburg in 1:47 in the consolation.

Mitchell’s Bryleigh Littrell competed at 105, falling to Edgewood’s Katelyn Holmes in 40 seconds in the first round, then suffering a 22-7 loss to Bloomington South’s Valerie Pope in the consolation.

At 125, Mitchell’s Ella Roush lost to Bloomington South’s Faith Hand in 52 seconds in the opening round. After crushing Franklin’s Haylee Maxey 15-0 in the consolation round, she suffered a pin loss to Whiteland’s Kylie Alltop in 3:57. Roush capped her day by winning the fifth-place match, topping West Washington’s Aubree Smith in 33 seconds.
