Indiana State Police search for suspect wanted in shooting of Orange County deputy; suspects car recovered

Orange County, IN – The Indiana State Police has issued a Statewide Blue Alert for a suspect involved in the shooting of an Orange County deputy early Friday morning. Authorities are actively seeking Austin Schepers, a 33-year-old white male, in connection with the incident.

Schepers is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a cross tattoo beneath his left eye and several tattoos on his neck. At the time of the shooting, Schepers was driving a silver 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix with Indiana license plate CRT921. An unidentified individual was also reportedly in the vehicle.

The shooting occurred in West Baden around 12:58 a.m. on January 3, 2025. Schepers remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

The deputy was taken to UofL Hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.

Police said Schepers was with a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, and she has been found.

As of now, his vehicle has been located in the Orangeville area. Authorities are asking the public to be vigilant and report any sightings of missing vehicles or individuals walking in the area. Residents are urged to keep doors and windows locked for their safety.
