Greene County EMA requests local churches and fire stations to open as warming centers amid winter storm

GREENE CO. – In response to the approaching winter storm and extreme cold temperatures, the Greene County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) calls local churches and fire stations to open their doors as warming centers for those in need.

“We are requesting Greene County churches and fire stations to open their doors to provide shelter to individuals seeking refuge from the dangerous cold,” said Roger Axe, Director of the Greene County Emergency Management Agency. “We have found that people prefer to stay close to home, and churches and fire stations provide ideal locations to help them stay safe during these harsh conditions.”

Local churches and fire stations that can assist are asked to contact the EMA office at 812-384-4127 to notify officials of their willingness to serve as warming centers.

“We appreciate the support of our community partners in helping to protect the safety and well-being of our residents,” Axe added.
