INDIANA – Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb has activated the Indiana National Guard to assist state and local responders in managing the ongoing winter storm and its impacts on the state. The Guard’s response will focus on providing winter storm support and aiding first responders in handling emergencies related to severe weather.
The Indiana National Guard has deployed Highway Assistance Teams across the state to assist stranded motorists and provide other necessary support during winter weather emergencies. The teams consist of 122 Hoosier Guardsmen who will operate from seven Indiana National Guard armories located in Bedford, Edinburgh, Evansville, Indianapolis, New Albany, Shelbyville, and Washington.
As part of the response, the Indiana National Guard will collaborate closely with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the Indiana State Police, and the state’s Emergency Operations Center. The activation is expected to last through Tuesday, Jan. 7, with plans to extend support as needed.
“Indiana National Guard soldiers and airmen are always ready and always there to assist Hoosiers when called,” the Guard said in a statement, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community during the storm.
Residents are encouraged to follow official weather updates and stay safe as the storm affects the region.
