BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested late on December 29, 2024, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he crashed his car into a fence near a residence on 12th and T Street in Bedford, Indiana. Nathan Lewis Daggy, 36, of Bedford, was taken into custody after a series of events that led to a vehicle accident and subsequent intoxication investigation.
According to Bedford Police Officer Michael Bell’s affidavit for probable cause, the incident began around 8:33 p.m. when Bedford Police Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of 12th and T Street. Officer Bell arrived at the scene to find a white Chevrolet Blazer with its airbags deployed after driving through a fence at 2001 12th Street. The vehicle also struck and damaged a stop sign at the intersection, which was found underneath the vehicle, along with debris from the fence. Thankfully, the vehicle did not hit the nearby residence but came dangerously close.
Upon contacting the vehicle’s driver, Nathan Daggy, and the registered owner, Frankie Daggy, Officer Bell learned that Nathan had been behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Nathan voluntarily provided a statement explaining that he had been driving the vehicle when it malfunctioned. He stated that after turning onto S Street from 16th Street, he attempted to spin the tires by accelerating quickly. According to Nathan, the vehicle continued to accelerate uncontrollably despite his efforts to brake, eventually causing the vehicle to crash into the stop sign and fence.
While inspecting the scene, police discovered tire marks leading from the intersection of 13th Street and T Street to the crash site, which were photographed as evidence. However, Officer Bell’s investigation took a turn when he noted that Nathan was chewing gum and vaping during their conversation.
When Officer Haluda, another officer on the scene, inquired about whether Nathan had been drinking, he admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening. Officer Haluda reported smelling the odor of alcohol on Nathan’s breath and observed his red, glassy eyes. A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) was administered, which returned a result of 0.169, more than twice the legal limit for intoxication.
Nathan was then read his rights under Indiana’s Implied Consent Law and consented to a blood draw. He was arrested, handcuffed, and transported to IU Health Bedford for a blood draw at 9:42 p.m. Afterward, Nathan was processed at the Bedford Police Department and taken to the Lawrence County Jail for housing.
After a vehicle inventory was completed, Jackson’s Heavy Haul towed the white Chevrolet Blazer.
Nathan Lewis Daggy has been charged with operating while intoxicated, endangerment, and operating while intoxicated. Further investigation is underway, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
