Hoosier Housing Experiences & Conditions Photovoice Project aims to raise awareness of Indiana’s housing crisis

INDIANA – Indiana residents are being called upon to share their personal experiences with the state’s housing crisis through a unique initiative to improve understanding of housing conditions in the Hoosier State. The Hoosier Housing Experiences & Conditions Photovoice Project invites individuals impacted by the ongoing housing struggles to contribute their stories and images to help shed light on the real-world impacts of the crisis.

The project, a collaboration with the Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute (ICAPI), seeks to collect visual and narrative accounts from Hoosiers aged 13 and up, showcasing the challenges of living in substandard or unaffordable housing. Using the “photovoice” approach, participants can connect their personal stories with photos of their living conditions, offering powerful insights into how the housing situation affects everyday people.

This project is an opportunity for people to share their lived experiences in a way that creates a real connection between their struggles and the broader issues facing the state. Through the stories and images participants share, we hope to raise awareness and spark meaningful conversations that can drive change.”

The photovoice project is designed to support those facing housing instability, poor living conditions, or other difficulties associated with the state’s housing market. By sharing their stories, Hoosiers can play a key role in educating policymakers and the public about the urgent need for housing reform.

All Indiana residents impacted by housing issues are encouraged to participate. Submissions can be made through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter or directly to the Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute by clicking here. The goal is to give a voice to those most affected by these challenges, ultimately helping to inform state legislators as they work to address housing concerns in the upcoming legislative sessions.
