Girl Scout Cookies to see price hike, S’mores and Toast-Yay retired

INDIANA – Starting this week, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) will roll out their annual cookie sales, with a new price increase and some beloved cookies retired from the lineup. The price of a box will likely increase to $7—up $1 from the previous two years—due to rising production and material costs. The organization last raised prices in 2023, from $5 to $6; the last price hike occurred in 2015.

This year, S’mores and Toast-Yay, introduced in 2017 and 2021, respectively, will no longer be available, though the GSUSA did not specify the reason for the retirements. Meanwhile, classic favorites like Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs will still be sold.

Cookies will be available at booths starting this week and online from February 21 through April. While the national price range for a box will be $4 to $7, specialty varieties like gluten-free options may cost more.

Girl Scout Cookies can be purchased from Girl Scouts participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program® during your local council’s cookie season. Learn when cookie season starts in your area and locate cookie booths by entering your zip code in the Find Cookies! search box.

You can also contact your local Girl Scout council to find a cookie booth near you. Councils generally conduct their cookie season between January and April.

The price hike comes amid broader financial challenges for the 112-year-old organization. In addition to the cookie price increase, GSUSA recently voted to hike membership dues, which will rise by 160% over the next two years. Membership dues are crucial to the organization’s finances, contributing significantly to its revenue, which in 2023 totaled $38 million. However, GSUSA still projects a $5.6 million operating loss in 2024.
