John R. ‘Bob’ Sharr, of Oolitic, passed away at 5:50 pm on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born January 7, 1927, he was the son of Shirley and Pearl (Kirk) Sharr. He married Helen Wray on August 3, 1953, and she preceded him in death. He was the owner of Bob’s Market in Oolitic and a farmer. He was a veteran of WW II, serving with the Army Horse Calvary. He was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church, Oolitic Kiwanis, and Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill Skillman (Stanley) and Jane Grissom (Mike), all of Oolitic; four grandchildren, Brian Skillman (Trish), Mandy Green (Chris), Kimberly Lanham (Matt), and John Grissom; four great-grandchildren, Gavin Green, Harper Skillman, Stella Lanham, and Christian Skillman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, Jim and Harold; four sisters, Bernice Ritter, Norma Bartlett, Barbera Bartlett, and Ruby Cracraft.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Rev. Richard Tallman and Pastor Taylor Quinley officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Gillen Post #33 American Legion members. Burial will follow in the Judah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
