LAWRENCE CO. – Following a wave of phone calls from residents, county officials have issued a clarification regarding mailbox damage caused by snow plows during recent winter storms.
“We are only responsible for the mailboxes that the county snow plows physically hit,” Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder stated, aiming to address the confusion that arose from multiple inquiries.
Officials acknowledged that some mailboxes along county roads were damaged during plowing operations. In response, they have committed to replacing the affected mailboxes. This initiative will ensure that residents whose mailboxes were directly impacted by snow plows receive proper replacements.
The clarification came after many calls from concerned residents seeking to understand the county’s responsibility. Local authorities emphasized that damage resulting from the expected effects of snow plowing or other factors will not be covered. Still, where snow plows were involved in the incident, efforts will be made to replace the mailboxes.
County officials assured the public that they are working to resolve these matters quickly and efficiently. Residents concerned about mailbox damage are encouraged to contact the county’s public works department for assistance.
