Sharon Kay Mathis, 78, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on January 4, 2025, at the Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown.
She was born on August 6, 1946, to the late Raymond Payton and Dorothy Arthur Payton. She married Robert ‘Bob’ Mathis on June 11, 1966, in Johnson County, Indiana, and he preceded her in death in 2014. Sharon loved to play bingo, cook, bake, and watch old John Wayne westerns, but most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving to cherish Sharon’s memory is her children, Brian (Kelli) Mathis, Terry Mathis, and Chad (Kathy) Mathis, grandchildren Ashley (Tylor) Brown, Chaz Mathis, and Ragan Mathis; step-grandchildren, Whitney (Stephen) Gibson and Bradley (Hannah) Smith; great-grandchildren, Easton Brown, and Maddalynn Brown; step-grandchildren, Jayden, Justice, and Serenity Lamaster-Smith, Carson Owen, Xackery Gibson, and Emma Smith, and brother, Wayne (Peggy) Payton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert ‘Bob’ Mathis, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 North Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana, on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. James Rodriguez officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at Burkholder Chapel. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
