Velma Joyce Teter, 87, of Bedford, passed away at 2:02 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born November 21, 1937, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Earl and Vena (Brown) Johnson. She married Karl Teter on August 11, 1978, and he preceded her in death on October 9, 2024. She was a health care and clerical worker at Pages, 3-D, Wheeler-Fouc, and the Dana Corp. She was the co-owner of the Pet Corner, a member of the Free Methodist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include four children, Paul Dorsett (Nancy), Nancy Stancombe (Stephen), Cheryl Hammond (Greg), all of Bedford, and Adrian Dorsett, of West Baden; three step-children, Bruce Teter (Christy), of Missouri, Kelly Teter, of Tipton, and Gwen Gilliam (Jeff), of Atlanta, IN; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; her parents; a grandson, Derek Stancombe; seven siblings, Donald, Dwight, and Leon Johnson, Delight Woodsmall, Norma Edington, Venita Prunty, and Pat Reynolds.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Adam Strauser and Reed Beard officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Gillen Post #33 American Legion members. Pallbearers are Darren and Daniel Stancombe, Justin Dorsett, Evan and EricHammond and Justin Spoonmore. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
