Vincennes man sentenced in fatal 2023 crash

VINCENNES – A 21-year-old Vincennes man received his sentence Friday for a deadly crash that claimed the life of a fellow community member last year.

Keeton Walker

Keeton Walker was sentenced to five years in jail, with all but 30 days suspended to probation, for the May 2023 accident that killed 20-year-old Dalton Kirby. Walker pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in October.

The fatal crash occurred near Monroe City when Walker, driving at high speed on Monroe School Road, lost control of his vehicle. The impact ejected Kirby, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

During Friday’s sentencing hearing in Knox Superior Court One, family members of the victim testified before Judge Gara Lee, requesting leniency in Walker’s sentencing, according to Knox County Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan.

Walker was taken to Knox County Jail Friday afternoon to begin serving his 30-day sentence.
