JEFFERSONVILLE – Kasey Noel, daughter of former southern Indiana sheriff Jamey Noel, was sentenced Monday to 60 months in prison, with 51 months suspended to probation, after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges of theft and tax evasion in Clark County Circuit Court.
Noel will serve 4.5 months at the Harrison County Detention Center. She was ordered to pay $108,660.59 in restitution to New Chapel Fire and $5,049 to the Indiana Department of Revenue.
The sentencing comes after her father, former sheriff Jamey Noel, pleaded guilty in October to multiple felonies, including corrupt business influence, theft, and money laundering. Prosecutors say the family misused millions of dollars from the Utica Township Volunteer Firefighters Association by spending it on personal expenses, including vacations, tuition, and online shopping, using credit cards.
Washington County Judge Larry Medlock who has been appointed Judge in all three cases, addressed the family dynamics during the hearing, telling Kasey Noel, “I believe you’re a victim of your father.” Her mother, Misty Noel, who has filed for divorce from Jamey Noel, faces similar charges, and her trial date is pending.
Kasey Noel expressed remorse in court, saying she “followed the wrong examples.” Her attorney indicated that childhood trauma played a role in the case, suggesting Jamey Noel had manipulated both his daughter and estranged wife.
