BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s Ava Lipp splashed to a victory in the 100-yard backstroke during the Hoosier Hills Conference girls swimming meet on Saturday.

Lipp, a junior and the top seed in the event, touched first in 1:04.57 to earn All-HHC honors. She was BNL’s first conference event winner since Emma Gabhart.

BNL’s other top finishers were the 200 freestyle relay. Cookie King, Emma Heinzman, Ava Lipp and Sabrina Lipp combined to take third in 1:51.99.

“It was a home run day for the ladies,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “After finishing last the previous three years, the girls took a big step forward, securing a fourth-place team finish.

“I would be hard pressed to single anyone out. It was just PR after PR. Jabrie Sullivan had monster drops, as did Mia Manke, Emma Conover, and Sabrina Lipp. If there were a freshman of the meet award, Sabrina would have locked it down for sure. I can’t really put into words how proud I am of these girls right now, and I can’t wait to unleash them on the Jasper Sectional.”

Seymour won the team title with 302 points. BNL took fourth with 165.

The Stars will host Seymour on Tuesday.
