Fatal off-road vehicle accident in Lawrence County under investigation

BEDFORD — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Law Enforcement is investigating a fatal off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that occurred in Lawrence County on Sunday, January 19, at Pumphouse and Riverbluff Roads.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. on that day, emergency services were called to the scene of the accident, where they found 51-year-old Eric Beasley of Bedford deceased upon arrival. The accident, which involved a single off-road vehicle, occurred without any witnesses, leaving the cause of the incident unclear.

Eric was a die setter at General Motors in Bedford for 10 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Desert Storm. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 440 and Oolitic V.F.W. #1686. He loved his family and friends, riding his Harley, and off-roading. He lived his life to the fullest.

Initial reports indicate that Beasley was not wearing any safety equipment, including a helmet or harness, at the time of the accident. There were no other victims involved in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the DNR Division of Law Enforcement as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading to the tragedy. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.

Funeral services for Eric Beasley will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Gillen Post #33 American Legion members. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23rd, and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
